What Causes Pug Gas and Suggestions to Fix This

1. Fast Chowing. One element that may cause Pug farts is the when the dog eats too quickly.  It is quite normal for dogs to wolf down their food and then want to eat again moments later.  This can be fixed much easier than you may think.   It simply involves  changing  your dog's food dish.

When a dog is allowed to eat from a "normal" dish or bowl, they can suck down food very fast....This means that they are swallowing air along with the food...And that air eventually passes through the body can comes out as gas.

Therefore, you will want to obtain a bowl that is designed to slow down the eating process.  These can be found at just about any pet supply store.  The main objective is to have safe obstructions inside of the bowl that force the Pug to slow down to eat their meal.  A photo is below to show you:

2.  Food Changes.  There are a few elements to consider here.  First, it appears that when a Pug's main diet is changed, there is an increase of gas for 1-2 weeks.  This is not to say that you should not change their food....Since it is the very food itself that may be causing the problem....

Corn -  Corn seems to make Pug farting worse.  After all, humans bodies have a difficult time digesting this, and so do dogs.  It can help to eliminate this from your Pug's diet.. If you are home cooking for your dog, simply do not add this as a vegetable.  If you are feeding your Pug according to Dr. Sara's Healthy Home Cooking, there is no need to make changes, as corn is not an included vegetable in the recipes.

Meat - Each Pug is very unique when it comes to gas problems.  Therefore, one owner may find great relief when switching from chicken to lamb as the main meat in their dog's diet.... another may find that changing from lamb to chicken does the trick. The main element to remember is that making a dietary change of your dog's main meat source often helps.

Liver treats -  From a poll of Pug owners, it appears that liver treats triggers farting in their dogs.  Many have found that the gas is greatly reduced when they offer raw baby carrot sticks as an alternative doggie treat.

3. Supplements.   There is a canine supplement that helps many dogs with gas problems.  It is called Prozyme  and comes as a powder.  It is an enzyme that helps the dog absorb nutrients....And is said to help with digestive issues.   In many cases, owners have found that once on this regularly., it decreases Pug farts.
